CFB Week 13 Recap

The final weekend of the regular season provided some exciting rivalry game action in both the Pac-12 and Big Ten with teams fighting for bowl eligibility.

Iowa (8-4, 6-3) RB LeShun Daniels Jr. rushed for 158 yards and two scores to help the Hawkeyes upset Nebraska (9-3, 6-3).

In the battle for the Pac-12 North Washington (11-1, 8-1) QB Jake Browning threw for 292 yards and three touchdowns to lead his Huskies over Washington State (8-4, 7-2) in the Apple Cup. The Huskies will face Colorado in the Pac-12 title game with a chance at the College Football Playoff on the line.

In the 91st meeting between the two desert schools Arizona (3-9, 1-8) rushed for512 yards and seven touchdowns and picked up their first Pac-12 victory of the season over in-state rival Arizona State (5-7, 2-7).

One of the most storied rivalries in all of college football added another historic chapter on Saturday when Ohio State (11-1, 8-1) edged Michigan (10-2, 7-2) in double overtime. Buckeyes RB Curtis Samuel scored on a 15-yard touchdown run to seal the deal after the Ohio State defense held the Wolverines to a field goal in the second overtime. The Buckeyes season will continue in the College Football Playoff.

Indiana (6-6, 4-5) RB Devine Redding’s 1-yard score with 4:59 remaining in the 4th quarter sealed the Hoosiers’ victory over Purdue (3-9, 1-8). The Hoosiers are bowl eligible in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1991.

Northwestern (6-6, 5-4) RB Justin Jackson rushed for 173 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Wildcats over Illinois (3-9, 2-7). Northwestern has now beaten their longtime rival of 110 years in back-to-back years and will be bowl eligible for the second consecutive season.

Maryland (6-6, 3-6) rushed for 318 yards and three touchdowns to take down Rutgers (2-10, 0-9) and become bowl eligible under first-year head coach D.J. Durkin. Their most recent bowl appearance was the 2014 Foster Farms Bowl against Stanford.

Trace McSorely threw for 376 yards and four touchdowns to lead Penn State (10-2, 8-1) to a victory over Michigan State (3-9, 1-8). Penn State will play Wisconsin in the Big Ten title game.

Wisconsin (10-2, 7-2) forced four second half turnovers to win Paul Bunyan’s Axe over rival Minnesota (8-4, 5-4). The Badgers will face Penn State in the Big Ten title game with an outside chance at the College Football Playoff.

Oregon State (4-8, 3-6), lead by RB Ryan Nall’s 155 yards and four touchdowns, scored 20 unanswered points to beat cross-state rival Oregon (4-8, 2-7) for the first time in eight years.

USC (9-3, 7-2) CB Adoree’ Jackson scored three total touchdowns in the victory over their longtime rival Notre Dame to finsh the season on a six-game winning streak.

Colorado (10-2, 8-1) CB Tedric Thompson picked off Utah (8-4, 5-4) twice to win the Pac-12 South and clinch their berth in the Pac-12 Championship game. The Buffaloes will play the Huskies Friday at Levi’s® Stadium.

Cal (5-7, 3-6) QB Davis Webb threw for 301 yards and two touchdowns as the Golden Bears walloped UCLA (4-8, 2-7).

Stanford (9-3, 6-3) RB Christian McCaffrey rushed for 204 yards and one touchdown to lead the Cardinal to a victory over Rice. Stanford will head to a bowl game for the sixth consecutive season.
