49ers Museum Provides Free Educational Field Trips to Schools

Sunday, May 4, 2014

Creating moments of inspiration — this is the central theme behind the development of the 49ers Museum’s quality education programs.

The 49ers have inspired fans with their outstanding play on the field for decades. Now, students of all ages will be inspired by the 49ers in a whole new and exciting way — through the provision of real-world learning experiences at the museum.

The 49ers Museum presented by SONY, a two-level, 20,000-square-foot space filled with interactive galleries and historic artifacts, is set to open on Aug. 2 on the north end of Levi’s®. The museum’s education program will host up to 20,000 elementary and middle school students throughout the school year and provide learning experiences that will connect, inspire and engage students through relevant standards-based content, interactive explorations and promote teamwork. Best of all, it’s free of charge for participating schools.

As part of their field trip, students will explore the technologically-savvy and environmentally-friendly Levi’s® Stadium, engage with innovative, interactive museum exhibits and build their critical thinking and collaborative work skills. Students will be able to relive the 49ers rich history at the Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. 49ers Hall of Fame and Super Bowl gallery, and in the Denise DeBartolo York Education Center, students will experience how science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) play a vital role in the game of football. Not only will they be exposed to such concepts using cutting-edge technology, students will have the opportunity to put their new knowledge to practice in and out of the center’s state-of-the-art classroom through hands-on, project-based challenges and activities.

Schools can customize their field trip experiences to meet their students’ and curriculum needs. From STEM content to health and fitness, students will be exposed to various fields of study that will spark their interest. Field trip experiences can include:

  • Customizable Curriculum Options: Educators can choose from an array of engaging K-8 lesson options, each of which is aligned to Common Core and Next Generation learning standards and sure to capture the imagination of students.
  • Levis® Stadium Tour: Students will learn about how the stadium is a showcase for technology innovation and environmental sustainability.
  • Guided Museum exploration: Students will experience the 49ers history — and the game of football — through an interactive experience built on innovative technology.

Without a doubt, this unique experience will provide an outstanding opportunity for student learning, but it will also create memories that will last a lifetime.
