“With Levi’s® Stadium located in the heart of Sharks Territory, the people of Santa Clara are ecstatic about hosting the international phenomenon that is the NHL Stadium Series,” said Julio Fuentes, Executive Director of the Santa Clara Stadium Authority. “We look forward to the opportunity to showcase the versatility and fan-friendly nature of this venue with hockey fans around the world.”

As part of the 2015 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series, the event will be the second outdoor regular-season NHL game played in the U.S. west of the Mississippi River, and the second such game held in California.

Levi’s® Stadium will provide a most unique setting for the event. Having hosted its first event on August 2nd, the state-of-the-art facility will continue the NHL’s recent initiative to bring outdoor hockey events to the West Coast and other parts of the country.

The NHL hosted six outdoor regular-season games in 2013-14, including a contest between the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks at Dodger Stadium on Jan. 25, 2014, that drew a star-studded crowd of 54,099. The league first introduced an outdoor exhibition game in Las Vegas on Sept. 27, 1991, between the Kings and the New York Rangers. The NHL’s first regular season outdoor game was the 2003 Heritage Classic between the Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens on November 22, 2003 at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta.
