VTA: Nine-day Closure of Light Rail Stations, Track to Speed Up Construction

Wednesday, May 7, 2014

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) will be shutting down two light rail stations and the segment of track in between in Santa Clara to help speed up construction of the Santa Clara Pocket Track, an extra track that will hold the trains needed to meet the anticipated increases in ridership resulting from Levi’s® Stadium and VTA’s extension of BART to Silicon Valley in 2017.

The nine-day closure of the Reamwood and Vienna stations and the light rail tracks, from Friday, May 16 at 11 p.m. to Monday, May 26 at 4 a.m., will facilitate construction efficiencies, allowing crews to work extended hours to complete a large portion of the construction for the project. Without the closure, the work would have to be done over a series of weekends and the completion date for the necessary improvement would be delayed.
